Feline or canine hemobartonellosis, also known as mycoplasmosis or feline infectious anemia, is a disease caused by the parasitic bacteria Mycoplasma haemofelis/canis or Haemominutum/parvum which generally goes unnoticed in individuals who suffer from it, however, in the most serious cases manifests itself as severe anemia, which can ultimately cause the death of the individual.
Transmission of hemobartonellosis occurs by contact or through saliva. However, interactions that involve aggression, such as fighting, biting or scratching, can ultimately cause transmission, as in these cases animals may be exposed to the blood of an infected animal. Any cat or dog can suffer from this pathology, regardless of age, breed or sex.
