Equine respiratory diseases also called acute respiratory syndrome can cause a complex and unspecific set of clinical signs such as hyperthermia, serous discharge, or inflammation of the upper respiratory tract. Viruses such as equine herpes virus 1, 2, 4 & 5 or equine influenza virus or bacteria such as Streptococcus equi subspecies equi (strangles) or Streptococcus equi subspecies zooepidemicus can cause these clinical signs.
The Epona EHV-5 Lavages tests are new generation molecular tests allowing the detection and discrimination of fragments of the genomes of equine herpesviruses 5 in a reliable and rapid manner in order to obtain indications as to the presence or absence of the pathogens incriminated in the appearance of the clinical signs observed.
Unlike traditional PCR reactions, Epona tests are performed in just a few steps on a portable and easy-to-use reader system. The result can therefore be obtained in less than 40 minutes directly in your clinic.
